
Beth Yates
Beth has recently completed her MA in Solo Voice Ensemble Signing at the University of York under Robert Hollingworth. Prior to this, she pursued a degree in Modern Languages (German and Italian) at Durham University where she sang regularly in ensembles, chapel choirs and as a soloist. As well as being a VOCES8 Scholar for 2025/26, Beth is also a member of Genesis Sixteen and is soon to join the members of Siglo de Oro, directed by Patrick Allies.

Kizzy Lumley-Edwards
Kizzy Lumley-Edwards is a recent graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Their singing journey started in the National Youth Choir, an organisation they have been part of for a decade. Most recently with National Youth Voices, Kizzy did a prom with the BBC Singers conducted by Joe Hisaishi. They were in the 12th cohort of Genesis Sixteen and the 1st cohort of VOCES8’s Future Talent scheme, excited to return to work with VOCES8 again as a scholar.

Phoebe Wakefield
Phoebe is a mezzo-soprano who recently graduated from Royal Holloway. Whilst studying Music, she held a choral scholarship with the Choir of Royal Holloway and the alto scholarship at St Bartholomew the Great from 2023–24. Alongside being a dedicated ensemble singer, she is a versatile soloist, having studied Voice and Conducting at Junior Guildhall. She is a part of the ensemble Hemiola, the current alto scholar at Wells Cathedral, and is excited to be joining the VOCES8 Scholars this year.

Merel-Magali Cox
Dutch mezzo-soprano Merel-Magali is currently studying for an MMus in Vocal Studies and Opera at the RNCM with Mary Plazas. During her undergraduate degree at the RNCM, she was a lay clerk at Manchester Cathedral and now performs with The Mancunium Consort, Edvard Grieg Korene, VOCES8 Foundation and others. A versatile soloist and ensemble singer, highlights include Mozart’s Cherubino, Handel’s Solomon, and soloist in Messiah and Johannes-Passion with Manchester Baroque. Last year, she completed a degree in community conducting and is delighted to join the V8S this year.

Hugo Williamson
British tenor Hugo Williamson combines a love of solo and ensemble performance with a busy life as a Lay Clerk at King’s College, Cambridge. A first-class music graduate from Robinson College, he sang as a choral scholar at Gonville and Caius and trained with Joseph Middleton through the Cambridge University Lieder Scheme. A Genesis Sixteen alumnus and winner of the Donald Wort Prize and Clare College Song Competition, Hugo also manages Lady Clare’s Consort and regularly sings with LCC and Hemiola.

Sebastian Roberts
Sebastian Roberts graduated recently from St Andrews University where he enjoyed organ and choral scholarships with St Salvator’s Chapel Choir and is eagerly awaiting the launch of their EP featuring his own arrangements. Recent performances include the Evangelist in Bach’s St John Passion, his opera debut as Debussy’s Pelleas and Tristan in Martin’s Le Vin Herbe. He has led The Other Guys (all male a capella) to award winning success and is a founder member of the Hepburn IV.

Iris Oliver
Iris was introduced to choral music at school, and went on to become a choral scholar at Keble College, Oxford, where she read English and French. She now enjoys a mix of solo and ensemble performance across the UK. Recent highlights include Purcell’s The Fairy Queen as The Drunken Poet, Coridon, and Hymen, step-out solos as a choral scholar at St Martin-in-the-Fields, and touring to New York with Genesis Sixteen. Iris is a choral scholar with Temple Church and Oxford Bach Soloists for 2025-2026, and is hugely excited to be a part of VOCES8 Scholars.

Frederic Mattes
German bass and conductor Frederic Mattes is a graduate of the HMDK Stuttgart. Having sung in choirs since the age of three, he is very excited to join the next VOCES8 cohort. In the 2025/26 season, he will also be a member of the RIAS Kammerchor Academy. As a composer and arranger, he enjoys creating music for vocal ensembles, with several of his works published. Frederic is the Co-Founder/-Director of the Stuttgart-based vocalensemble calens (prize winner Leipzig 2024).

Dan Barrett
Dan first got involved with VOCES8 as a camera operator for the inaugural Live From London concert series during the pandemic. He has produced a number of audio and video recordings of the choirs of St Catharine's College, Cambridge and has worked with About Sound Ltd in providing sound reinforcement and live streaming for live music and places of worship. His musical experience ranges from singing in church choirs to playing in pit bands to recording and producing original music.
