VOCES8 UK Technical Scholar 2026-27
Launched in 2025, we are thrilled to have expanded our UK Scholars programme to include a pathway for audio and visual technicians.
Designed for early-career creatives passionate about recorded sound, video production, and digital storytelling, this pathway offers hands-on experience working alongside VOCES8 Studios on projects such as Live From London and our acclaimed YouTube content.
Scholars will gain practical skills in recording, editing, camera operation, and post-production, along with training to join the VOCES8 Studio’s delivery team, with paid professional opportunities available. The year will culminate in a supported personal project, making use of VOCES8 Studios’ equipment.
“Being a tech scholar has been an absolute pleasure and it has been incredibly valuable for me in terms of developing my skills but also learning how to act in a professional environment and approach working with professionals. I really believe it has given me a unique headstart in the industry which will help me begin my career.”
This year’s Technical Scholar is Alyssa Fraley. Alyssa is an American audio engineer and aspiring higher audio educator specialising in classical recording. She studied Vocal Performance and performed as both a soloist and chorister as an undergraduate in Los Angeles but shifted into audio engineering during her studies. After a brief career as a radio producer and adjunct audio lecturer, she began studies for her MMus in Music Technology at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She is thrilled to return to choral music as the VOCES8 AV Technician Scholar.
The VOCES8 UK Technical Scholars Programme is led by VOCES8’s Artistic Director, Barnaby Smith (barnaby@voces8.foundation), VOCES8 Alto, Katie Jeffries-Harris (katie@voces8.com) and Ann Wright (ann@voces8.foundation), the VOCES8 Foundation’s Director of Education.
